Airport Business (HE9797 AB)

The January 2010 issue of Airport Business casts its spotlight on “The $1 Billion Big Build”, or $1.08 billion to be exact. The terminal project, based in Sacramento International, comprises a landside terminal building with an airside concourse connected by an above ground airport people mover system.

The project is slated to be completed between the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2011. You can read more about this project, some of the controversy surrounding it, and more, if you swing by the Library’s Periodicals Section at Level 4, HE9797AB.

Airports International (HE9797 AI)

In line with the beefing up of security at  airports after the Christmas Terror Alert, Airports International’s January/February issue headlines “Christmas Terror Alert Brings Security Changes”.

The British government has upped aviation security requirements, its first major change since August 2006. More pat-down body searches, more sniffer dogs, an increase in hand luggage inspections, millimeter-wave body scanners and more are making their way into UK’s commercial airports.

Yet, industry watchers estimate that these mesures would only have a 50 – 60% chance of detecting the type of explosives in the Christmas scare. The most reliable method? The controversial use of profiling.

Why not swing by the Library’s periodical section to pick up this periodical and find out more? Airports International can be found at HE9797 AI.

Coupled with Air Transport Intelligence, International Civil Aviation Organisation Data (ICAO) can provide a well rounded view of the aviation industry. These 2 databases can be found here.
